ERIE, PA, April 30, 2010 -- GE Marine and Stationary, a unit of GE Transportation, announced today that the New York City Department of Environmental Protection has reached an agreement with Skanska USA to purchase three GE 12 cylinder V250 enclosed stationary generator sets (gensets) for their wastewater treatment facility in the 26th Ward.

Scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2010, these gensets will provide backup power in case of a blackout while meeting EPA Tier II emission standards. This backup power is necessary to provide the safety and security of Brooklyn's water treatment facilities after the city's blackouts in 2002 and 2003.

In 2003, New York City, along with much of the Northeastern United States, experienced a blackout, affecting more than 10 million people. GE's gensets will lessen the impact of a similar occurrence in the future for the 284,000 customers of the 26th Ward's wastewater facility.

"GE provides backup power for critical infrastructure to cities and remote locations around the globe," said John Manison, Business Leader for GE Marine & Stationary. "Our stationary gensets are a source of fuel efficient power that provide cost-effective service to customers and end users."

GE's V250 engine provides fuel savings as much as 6.5% when compared to previous generation engine models. The V250 engine was designed for higher efficiency, lower emissions, improved reliability and maintainability to lower the total cost of ownership for customers.

The engines will be built in GE's world-class engine manufacturing facility in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
