Ultraviolet disinfection system receives NSF-61 certification for drinking water

Aug. 9, 2013
A number of U.S. utilities are NSF/ANSI Standard 61 certified, including Engineered Treatment Systems for its UV drinking water systems.

BEAVER, WI, Aug. 9, 2013 -- A number of water and wastewater utilities across the United States are certified as NSF/ANSI Standard 61 compliant for their technology and treatment systems. NSF/ANSI Standard 61 Drinking Water System Components - Health Effects is the standard that establishes the minimum health effects requirements for materials, components, products or systems that contain drinking water treatment chemicals.

This standard, for example ensures that ultraviolet (UV) light does not degrade components used within the products. Likewise, for Engineered Treatment Systems (ETS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Neptune-Benson, this certification was provided for its UV drinking water systems.

ETS specializes in the application of UV light, offering both medium pressure and low pressure amalgam lamp technologies in applications from a few GPM to full-scale water treatment plants treating flows of 30 MGD in a single chamber. The company provides solutions for both new installations and retrofits of existing systems, in a range of simple to footprint-challenging environments. Further, their UV systems safeguard against chlorine tolerant microorganisms such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia.

The ETS UV disinfection system is ideal for drinking water and wastewater treatmet, pharmaceutical applications, petrochemical fields, food and beverage industries, pulp and paper plants, aquaculture, and even pool disinfection.
