RICHMOND, VA, Sept. 25, 2013 -- The US Army Corps of Engineers will incorporate mechanical bar screens for channel debris removal to provide critical frontline protection and safeguard the integrity of its Permanent Canal Closures and Pumps (PCCP) facilities near Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, La.
The designer of the bar screens, Infilco Degremont, Inc., (SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT), will supply seventeen of its Climber® Screens to handle an aggregate flow of 15.7 billion gallons per day that will vary between 24 and 29 feet in width. With seventeen units each reaching a depth 48 feet, PCCP will be one of the largest screening projects undertaken by Infilco to date.
The US Army Corps of Engineers selected PCCP Constructors, a joint venture consisting of Kiewit Louisiana Co., Traylor Bros. Inc., and the M.R. Pittman group, LLC, for the construction of three facilities that will provide permanent risk reduction from heavy tropical rainstorms and 100-year storm surge events, in replacement of the interim closure pumps and structures installed after Hurricane Katrina. The three new permanent facilities will be located at the London Ave., Orleans Ave. and 17th Street outfall canals and will form one of the largest drainage pumping station projects in the world. At a cost of approximately $615 million, the pumping stations are slated for completion in 2017.
