MONTREAL, CANADA, Sept. 10, 2013 -- The International Water Association (IWA) recently honored the ONE DROP Foundation with the Project Innovation Award in the Sanitation and Wastewater category for its work in in India.
Among the 40 projects considered, ONE DROP, located in the state of Orissa -- one of the poorest states in India, was lauded by the IWA jury for the social transformations it was able to achieve through the innovative use of social art and popular education throughout the entire intervention project.
"For us, this is a genuine recognition of ONE DROP's unique intervention approach which, over and above providing water infrastructure and microfinance, uses social art and popular education to mobilize the population and engender significant and sustainable behavioral changes among impacted communities", Danielle Valiquette, Chief Program Officer, ONE DROP.
The prize will be officially awarded at a ceremony taking place October 15, 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya.
In order to continue to promote the improvement of conditions of communities affected by water challenges, ONE DROP participated in the World Water Week 2013 (WWW) in Stockholm on Sept 1-6, and officially launched its annual report online, which describes ONE DROP projects executed in 2012 and the organization's objectives until 2017.
