EPA updates Gold King Mine response website with new sampling results, documents

Sept. 16, 2015
The Environmental Protection Agency recently announced that it has posted new surface water and sediment sampling results, along with additional documents, related to the Gold King Mine incident.

WASHINGTON, DC, Sept. 16, 2015 -- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced that it has posted new surface water and sediment sampling results, along with additional documents, related to the Gold King Mine incident.

The new sampling results provide surface water data for September 4-5 and 7-9 from EPA Region 6, as well as Sediment Data for September 5-9, also from Region 6. The new data is available here. The Agency has also posted multiple documents related to its involvement with Gold King Mine.

The new documents include EPA's regional "interim use" sampling plans (these are termed "interim" because they may be updated based on changing sampling priorities); contract documents related to the Agency's work at both the Gold King Mine and the Red and Bonita Mine; and documents related to landowner consent for EPA access to the Gold King Mine site.

EPA has also updated two of the Gold King Mine webpages to make them more user-friendly:

  • The Gold King Mine Data page has been updated with six new cumulative tables (one for sediment results and one for surface water results for Regions 6, 8 and 9) that allow the user to look at all the data collected over time in a single table. The tables remain in Excel for easy sorting by metal type, date collected, results, and location.
  • The Gold King Mine Documents page is now organized chronologically, with brief explanations of each document.

EPA continues to frequently update the Gold King Mine response website with sampling data, documents and other information. For additional information on the response to the Gold King Mine, click here.
