Pentair awards grant to WE&RF to advance biogas research

Water Environment & Reuse Foundation (WE&RF) received $100,000 for research characterizing the quality of biogas.

ALEXANDRIA, VA, JAN 2, 2018 --Water Environment & Reuse Foundation (WE&RF) recently received a grant of $100,000 by the Pentair Foundation for research characterizing the quality of biogas derived from wastewater solids, co-digested organic wastes, and other digestion enhancements. Pentair is a global company dedicated to building a safer, more sustainable world, and its Corporate Responsibility efforts work to mobilize the company's expertise, talent, products, and philanthropic dollars to develop effective and scalable solutions in the areas of water, food and education.

With this grant, WE&RF will advance its portfolio of co-digestion research, which has recently delved into analyses of feedstock variations to enhance biogas quantity and composition. Samples of co-digestion feedstock will be gathered from water resource recovery facilities across the United States. Analyses will be conducted to identify links between the feedstock and the resulting biogas characteristics. Proposals from research teams will be sought in early 2018. Results of that research should be available in 2019.

This grant builds on work that has been supported by Pentair in the past. The company's long-standing commitment to provide safe, clean water enabled several WE&RF research projects in the area of water reuse. "We look forward to continuing our complementary relationship with Pentair," explains WE&RF Chief Executive Officer Melissa Meeker.
