RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Months after Doosan secured the Shoaiba 4 desalination development and the Saline Water Conversion Company (SWCC) has awarded Pöyry with the owner's engineer services assignment for the project.
As part of the arrangement, Pöyry’s will review the contractor’s engineering and supervise construction, erection and commissioning.
In April SWCC awarded Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction the US$422 million contract to build the 400,000 m3/day reverse osmosis desalination facility.
Originally the development, in the pipeline for several years, was planned for Jeddah city but was then changed to Shoaiba, a costal area 50 miles to the south.
The value of the order was not disclosed and will fall within the Energy Business Group order stock in H2/2017. Having worked with SWCC for 30 years, Pöyry also provides services to the Ras Al Khair desalination development.
As well as Shoaiba 4, a further development in the Rabigh area, north of Jeddah, could see a 600,000 m3/day membrane-based desalination plant developed in the country.
