Peat-Based Water Filters Make Debut in U.S.

Recently, BATTA Technologies partnered with a Swedish manufacturer of peat-based contaminated-water filtration systems in order to bring this technology into the U.S. market.

Recently, BATTA Technologies partnered with a Swedish manufacturer of peat-based contaminated-water filtration systems in order to bring this technology into the U.S. market. These systems remove 99.9 percent of petroleum and heavy metals from contaminated water. The peat, which is the filtration media, is hydrophobic and absorbs more than twice as much petroleum per pound than activated carbon. This technology is being widely adopted overseas due to its extremely low cost of operation and maintenance.

AFX Absorber, a granular Swedish peat, is the main filtration media in all Axon filters. This material absorbs 0.5 liters of oil for every 1.0 liter of peat. It is 100 percent natural and will not leach contaminants after absorption. It can even be used on its own as an in-situ spill response absorber on both land and water. The peat will float for 24 hours on water, and is easy to dispose of once cleanup is complete.

Axon AMBT is a mobile filter system that uses a mass flow meter before filtration and measures pH, conductivity and turbidity after filtration.

The efficiency of the filters relies on the incredible absorption capacity of the patented peat material. After one pass through a BATTA Filter, effluent water contains less than 0.1 ppm of contaminant - clean enough to be released directly into the environment by EPA standards. There are various size models available, including both mobile and permanent systems.

Axon AMBT is a mobile filter system with options for rigorous detection and documentation accessories based on the customer’s needs. Axon AMBT has a gross weight of 2,976 pounds (1,350 kg) and can easily be moved between various sites with any hitch-equipped vehicle. It uses a mass flow meter before filtration and measures pH, conductivity and turbidity after filtration. All data is collected and stored in a PLC with touch screen.

AFX Absorber, a granular Swedish peat, is the filter medium in all BATTA systems.

Axon AMBT does not require observation during operation as it is equipped with a stop function that will stop operation and an alarm system will contact the operator when the containment area is empty or the filter is saturated. This system provides thorough diagnosis of the containment area and effluent water during the filtration process.

Additionally, these systems are easy to use and are equipped with data monitors and auto shutoff switches so no contaminated water will ever be left untreated. BATTA systems are designed so you can set it and forget it. You can even get updates sent to your phone when the peat has been saturated and is in need of a change.

About the Company: Batta Technologies provides innovative and effective products for oil/water separation and contaminated water filtration. For more information, visit battaenv.com.
