SAN DIEGO, CA, June 14, 2005 ¿ JMAR Technologies Inc. last month announced that a leading North American cruise ship operator has agreed to install its BioSentryTM waterborne microorganism early warning system and conduct a two-month beta test to start in mid-June. JMAR will provide one BioSentry unit to monitor for Cryptosporidium, Giardia and E. coli in the drinking water supply onboard one ship. Upon successful completion of the test, the cruise line will purchase one unit and will consider implementing additional BioSentry systems on multiple ships for a variety of uses including monitoring spas and swimming pools.
"This cruise line implementation will test the ability of our marine version of the BioSentry to function within the heat, humidity and vibration of the shipboard environment while carrying out its water monitoring functions," said Ronald A. Walrod, CEO of JMAR. "We are pleased to have this opportunity to demonstrate the added safety and security our BioSentry's real-time water quality monitoring system can offer to passengers and crewmembers alike."
With 189 cruise ships in operation worldwide, the addressable market for this BioSentry application is approximately 1000 units. In order to address this important market, JMAR has contracted with Hyde Marine, Inc., a leading supplier of equipment and services to the marine industry, to be its marine systems distributor.
The BioSentry is a laser-based early-warning system that will provide continuous, automated quality monitoring of drinking water. This unique system is designed to monitor, detect and classify waterborne microorganisms in real time, assuring water purity. Prospective applications include beverage bottling quality assurance, water utility operations, cruise ship water monitoring and homeland security for building water supply and water distribution systems.
