Albuquerque, N.M. New Mexico officials are celebrating an honored accomplishment by one of the top technology firms in the state. MIOX Corporation, a manufacturer of water disinfection equipment, has been awarded the U.S. President's "E" Award for Excellence in Exporting. The company has over 500 water disinfection systems installed in the U.S. and over 300 systems installed in 20 foreign countries. They are also ranked among the top 40 New Mexico technology companies for five years running.
The ceremony will take place on April 3rd at 1:30 PM at MIOX Corporate headquarters in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The U.S. Department of Commerce will present the "E" Award to the corporation, followed by a tour of the MIOX facilities and a display of their capital equipment. There will also be a demonstration of the MIOX Disinfection Pen, a portable water disinfection device the size of a magic marker. The Pen was recently sent overseas for field testing with the Marines in Afghanistan.
Other MIOX applications include disinfection of drinking water on-board U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and assault ships, disinfection of U.S. Forest Service campsite water supplies, and pending disinfection of water supplies on-board commercial aircraft. Some of the major city water installations in New Mexico include Santa Fe, Las Vegas, and Farmington. MIOX Corporation also recently installed a system to treat the Boulder, Colorado water supply.
The ceremony will be attended by Governor Gary Johnson, Senators Pete Domenici and Jeff Bingaman, and Congresswoman Heather Wilson. The U.S. Department of Commerce will be represented by Rocky Mountain Regional Director, Stephen Craven; Director of the N.M. Export Assistance Center, Sandra Necessary; and Trade Specialist Matthew Hilgendorf. Other state officials in attendance include the Cabinet Secretary for Economic Development, John Garcia; the Director of the N.M. Trade Division, Roberto Castillo; and a representatives from the Small Business Administration. Representatives from the Mayor's office include Martin Chavez's Chief Administrative Official, as well as the Director of Economic Development, Deirdre Firth. Sherman McCorkle, President and CEO of Technology Ventures Corporation, will also be present.
MIOX Corporation was 1 of only 9 companies in the entire country to receive the award for 2001. Only two other New Mexico companies have received the "E" award since its inception in 1961. The last N.M. recipient was 17 years ago. The award recognizes both success in the world market and contributions to the U.S. economy.
