WESTERVILLE, OH, June 12, 2002 -- Dave Hanson, president of Design Water Technologies in Shorewood, Minnesota, has been chosen to serve as the third McEllhiney Distinguished Lecturer by the National Ground Water Association (NGWA).
Hanson started his company in 1991 to create products for the ground water industry that safely solve problems in wells and systems. He has developed products that successfully treat iron bacteria, mineral scale, and coliform bacteria in wells, treatment facilities, and pipelines. In addition, Hanson has taught numerous ground water-related seminars and was one of the writers for the second edition of Groundwater and Wells, a comprehensive text on ground water and water well technology
Hanson's lecture is titled "Introduction to the Year of the Professional." The lecture will focus, in part, on the "P's" of business-professionalism, people, partnership, pride, profit, and purpose. It will challenge attendees to answer the following questions:
- Are your profits hurting because of low-price competitors?
- Do you have to go to work in the morning or want to go?
- Do you wait for the phone to ring or work to make it ring?
- Are customers a part of your business or a necessary evil?
- Do you have a plan or do you react to what happens each day?
His first lecture will be a key feature at the 2002 NGWA Ground Water Expo (National Convention and Exposition) to be held December 9-11 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The McEllhiney Lecture Series honors William A. McEllhiney, the founding president of NGWA in 1948, and a ground water contractor and civil engineer. The lecture series is sponsored by the National Ground Water Educational Foundation (NGWEF) through a grant from NGWA.
NGWEF encourages organized groups of contractors to consider hosting this free lecture. The presentations are well suited to meetings and/or conventions of state and regional ground water associations. The lectures also would be appropriate for international contractor organizations, academic institutions, regulators, and other groups with a direct interest in water well design and construction.
To schedule a presentation or for more information, call lecture coordinator Lee Salvator at (800) 551-7379. Further details on the McEllhiney Lecture Series also are available at http://www.ngwa.org/ngwef/mcellhiney.html.
National Ground Water Association members include more than 16,000 U.S. and international ground water professionals-contractors, equipment manufacturers and suppliers, and ground water scientists and engineers. NGWA members are committed to this basic understanding: when you are a ground water professional, it's more than just water. NGWA provides members, government, and the general public with the scientific knowledge and economic guidance necessary to responsibly develop, protect, and manage the world's ground water resources.
The National Ground Water Educational Foundation (NGWEF), established in 1994, is operated by the National Ground Water Association as a 501 (c)(3) public foundation and is focused on conducting educational, research and other charitable activities related to a broader public understanding of ground water.
