System will improve supply tracking , distribution and reporting while increasing public water safety
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., July 30, 2002 -- Covansys Corp. recently announced that they have completed phase I of a $3.9 million contract to implement a drinking water information system on behalf of the state of Washington Department of Health, Division of Drinking Water.
Currently in phase II of the project, the new system, called Sentry, is being designed to improve the state's ability to track drinking water supplies and distribution, thereby increasing the Division of Drinking Water's ability to prevent water contamination. Phase I implementation was completed on May 31, 2002. Scheduled to be fully operational by mid-2003, Sentry will modernize the Division of Drinking Water's information processing platform by replacing an outdated mainframe system with a more efficient Web-based system.
"Covansys has consistently proved to be a valuable asset to the Department of Health (DOH)," said Frank Westrum, chief information officer, state of Washington Department of Health. "They understand our business needs, and work hard to establish good working relationships with the DOH staff. These relationships substantially lower risk, and can virtually assure a successful project."
Sentry is a Web-based application that enhances the state's ability to track every registered drinking water supply in Washington with an easy-to-use interface. It also increases efficiency, saving time and money due to faster reporting capabilities - both predefined and ad-hoc - of each water system's water sample lab test results.
"Covansys takes pride in helping state and local governments improve the quality of services that they provide to their citizens," said Arvind Malhotra, vice president, Covansys Public Sector Practice. "With Sentry, we are confident that we are providing a more reliable and scalable system that will serve the state of Washington well for many years to come."
Sentry was built using HTML/ASP/XML/XSLT, VB/COM+, SQL Server 2000 and Crystal Reports.
For the past 16 years, Covansys has provided public sector solutions to more than 25 states in the areas of health and human services, transportation, public retirement systems, labor and tax and revenue systems. Covansys derives over 30 percent of its current annual revenues from state and local government customers.
Most recently, Covansys acquired PDA Software Services, Inc. (PDA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Selective Insurance Group Inc. (Nasdaq: SIGI). The acquisition expanded Covansys' portfolio of impressive IT capabilities for state governments due to PDA's, leadership in the development, implementation and maintenance of systems for states required to meet federal tracking and reporting mandates of the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Program.
In 2002, Covansys successfully implemented a $1.1 million Hazardous Waste Tracking System on behalf of the state of California that increased the efficiency, timeliness and security of tracking hazardous waste materials throughout the state. Covansys also recently announced a $4.2 million public retirement system on behalf of the state of Wisconsin.
