Oklahoma CITY, Okla., Oct. 29, 2000 (Tulsa World)—Residents of an Oklahoma City-area community are being told that their water system has violated a drinking water standard.
But officials in the city of Nichols Hills say they are not too concerned. Letters mailed to water customers on Friday say there is no need to boil water or take other corrective action but that residents should consult their doctor for concerns.
The city performs water sampling in different areas each month to detect certain forms of contaminates in the water system. In the most recent sampling, four of six samples did not pass state Department of Environmental Quality standards.
Water samples showed the presence of coliform bacteria. Public Works Deputy Director David Pool said the presence of coliform bacteria means other forms of bacteria such as fecal and E. coli bacteria could be present as well.
The city does not chlorinate its drinking water like other cities.
