VOORHEES, NJ, May 10, 2012 -- New Jersey American Water (NJAW) has awarded a design-build (DB) contract for the construction of the new Ranney Station Water Treatment Plant to the DB team of Bowen Engineering (construction contractor) and Hatch Mott MacDonald (designer).

A $9.4 million project, the new Ranney Station facility will provide treatment for iron, manganese, and perflourooctanoic acid (PFOA) using a combined process of manganese greensand and granular activated carbon filters. Upon completion, the new facility will treat flow from the NJAW Layton and Ranney well fields.

"The Ranney Station project is an example of innovative design implementation and collaboration using Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology that HMM brings to projects," said Albert Beninato, Executive Vice President and East Unit Managing Director. "Design-build project delivery, coupled with the use of BIM, provides a fast-track and efficient approach for NJAW's project."

The Ranney Station Water Treatment Plant project is a critical component of NJAW's plan to continue to provide the highest quality drinking water to its customers. Design of the project is expected to be completed by October 2012, and the construction of the new 8,000-square foot treatment facility is slated to be completed by early 2014.

The project brings together the Indianapolis, IN-based construction contractor, Bowen Engineering, and Millburn, NJ-based design engineer, Hatch Mott MacDonald, to execute the design and construction of the project in Carney Point Township, Salem County, NJ. The Bowen/Hatch Mott MacDonald team was previously selected and is nearing completion of the Birch Creek Water Treatment Plant Upgrade project in Logan Township, NJ, for NJAW.
