Jan. 21, 2004 -- Andy Richardson, chair of AWWA's Strategic Planning Committee, AWWA vice-president, and the Arizona Section director, will become the association's next president-elect at the annual conference in Orlando in June and assume the presidency in June 2005.

In seeking the position of association president, Richardson emphasized teamwork and momentum to ensure AWWA's position as the "unquestioned resource of information" on water matters, AWWA's programs for education and development of all water professionals, and the continued strength of AWWA sections.

Richardson, whose father was AWWA president 20 years ago, has participated in association and section technical, international, and management affairs since joining in 1983. A principal of Greeley and Hansen, consulting engineers, he is an expert in water reuse issues and holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and master's degrees in civil engineering and business administration.
The AWWA Board of Directors elected Richardson, five vice-presidents, and a director-at-large January 18, during its winter meeting in San Juan, P.R.

The new director-at-large, who begins a three-year term in June, is Melissa Wisely, water quality manager for Spokane, Wash.

The vice-presidents for 2004-2005 are
* Mari Garza-Bird, senior engineer with MWH Americas;
* Nilaksh Kothari, general manager of public utilities for Manitowoc, Wis.;
* Mike Leonard, general manager of the Atlanta-Fulton County Water Resources Commission;
* Gerald Samuel, a manager with Opertech Consulting in Edmonton, Alta.; and
* Curtis Truss, executive director of the Operator Training Committee of Ohio. Truss is already serving a one-year term as vice-president.
