AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS, March 13, 2014 -- A major project has been completed for Africa Pipe Industries by PPG Protective and Marine Coatings, which has suppled internal and external coatings on a 46-km, 2.1-m diameter pipeline installed for South African utility Rand Water.
PPG provided SIGMALINE™ 523 as an internal lining and SIGMALINE™ 855 as an external coating on the pipe installed at Sasolburg in the Free State region. Together, the coatings deliver high-performance protection of both surfaces against corrosion and contamination of the pipeline content.
For the pipeline's external coating, SIGMALINE 855 offers effective corrosion and water resistance and an aesthetic finish. Likewise, the coating's excellent abrasion and impact-resistance protected against minor damage during handling, transporting and installation with ultraviolet (UV) protection whilst awaiting installation onsite.
Approved and certified for potable drinking water to the BS 6920 2 standard, SIGMALINE 523 was applied as the internal lining. Resistant against bacterial growth, fast-curing and able to be applied to rotating pipes, the coating offers easy application on field joints after installation welding.
