Newport Municipal Utility District provides water, sanitary sewer and drainage services to its 12,000 residents.
HOUSTON, TEXAS, APRIL 8, 2019 -- Newport Municipal Utility District has selected civil engineering firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) as its district engineer.
Located in Harris County approximately 23 miles northeast of the Houston central business district, Newport Municipal Utility District provides water, sanitary sewer and drainage services to its 12,000 residents. At ultimate buildout, the District will serve 17,000 people.
To serve its residents, the District operates a 2.5 million gallons a day (MGD) surface water plant, two ground water plants, 25 single-family residential subdivisions, a 1.3 MGD wastewater treatment plant, three detention ponds and parks & trail systems.
"The board of directors of Newport MUD has always sought out top-notch professionals and service contractors for the benefit of its residents," said Lori Aylett, attorney for the District. "The Board's goal is to provide the best services for its constituents, and everyone is delighted to have a premier firm like LAN join us in this pursuit."
As the district engineer, LAN will provide planning, design, inspection and construction administration services related to the development of these facilities. Additionally, LAN will review construction plans related to the on-going subdivision development, prepare engineering reports to support bond issues used to finance system improvements, and provide guidance and counsel to the board of directors on engineering matters. LAN will join a team of professionals assisting the District, including lawyers, financial advisors, tax assessors, operators and bookkeepers.
"Due to a surge in homebuilding over the last few years, the District has been working hard to expand its water and wastewater facilities," said Bill Rosenbaum, P.E., LAN's vice president. "We are looking forward to working with the District to help plan and implement improvements that will benefit its residents."
