Directional drilling video

A new video from CertainTeed is available that explains how restrained-joint C900 PVC water pipe can be installed with horizontal directional drilling equipment. The eight-minute presentation shows the step-by-step process of making a trenchless installation of a segment of water main on a project in Texas. Restrained joint PVC pipe uses special connectors to quickly and firmly lock pipe sections together. Restrained joint pipe is suited for installation with a directional drill because lengths of pipe will not come apart or stretch as the drill unit pulls them into the ground through a previously-made pilot hole.

Lined piping systems

A new brochure (#220-0699) from 3P -- Performance Plastics Products -- describes the 3P line of high performance fluoropolymer lined pipe, fittings and accessories for management of highly corrosive or ultra-pure chemicals. The brochure details the manufacturing sintering process used to produce the fluoropolymer liners in 3P pipes, fittings and accessories. This processing method creates extra-strong, split-resistant liners, which can be more durable than conventional PTFE liners. With increased vacuum resistance, 3P liners are resistant to cracking at the flange flares. Also discussed are two types of pipe liner construction: "interference-fit" and "slip-fit." The interference-fit design provides maximum resistance to vacuum and is used on all flange-by-flange pipe spools manufactured by 3P. For efficient field fabrication of custom-length spool pieces, the company also offers slip-fit construction on "flanged-one-end" or "plain-end" pipe. Due to their heavy wall thickness, the slip-fit configuration in PTFE is rated to full vacuum at maximum rated temperature in most pipe sizes.

Potable water filtration

R.P. Adams has a new brochure available that describes its IWF Potable Water Filtration System. The diatomaceous earth (DE) system consists of multiple element filters designed to remove fine particulate from raw water streams. As a filter aid, DE is environmentally sound and eliminates the need for chemical additives that can be expensive and difficult to maintain. Unlike other filter designs, the IWF has no moving internal parts, making it maintenance-free. The system is intended to be cost effective, with equipment, installation, operating, and maintenance costs lower than many conventional technologies. The system also has a smaller than average footprint.

Mass detector

Waters Corporation has published a new brochure highlighting the company's single quadrupole ZMD Mass Detector. When used in combination with Waters Alliance HPLC Systems, the ZMD Detector gives scientists information about the molecular structure of specific biological and environmental compounds in a mixture or sample. The information produced by the detector is then used to certify the identity of those compounds. Fully illustrated throughout, diagrams help explain the benefits of the detector's patented ZSpray dual orthogonal sampling technique for enhanced signal-to-noise ratios. These applications have been written in collaboration with leading analysts to ensure a degree of finesse previously absent in MS data systems.
