The top product, a free pump selection program from Pumpex, garnered 134 requests for more information. The release was featured in the October issue?s product section on pumps.
The software, called Pump Explorer, is designed to help decision makers choose the right pump for their needs. The software?s special feature, according to Pumpex President Robert Montenegro, is its ability to automatically calculate system friction loss by analyzing construction and liquid variables.
Since its availability in August 1999, the company has shipped out 200 percent more packages than originally forecasted, said Montenegro.
Many pump manufacturers offer pump selection software, but the Pumpex package has easy-to-use analysis tools which help determine the friction loss calculation. Montenegro believes this is the reason for the product?s success.
?With a click of your mouse, in seconds you?re making all the calculations that used to be done by hand in hours or days,? Montenegro said.
The software works equally well for municipal water, municipal wastewater, or industrial wastewater processes. The input process involves entering in each element of the piping system and specifics such as age, materials of construction and valves.
The program then returns a recommendation on a pump the customer could buy, finishing by suggesting a Pumpex pump for the application.
Although it is a sales tool, it can be used to select non-submersible pumps as well.
