KANSAS CITY, KS, Dec. 2, 2011 -- EPA has awarded $243,000 to the City of Salina, Kan., for improvements to its drinking water and sewer systems. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.

EPA Region 7 Administrator Karl Brooks said, "By paying nearly half the cost of construction, EPA is helping save ratepayers money and provide adequate drinking water and sewer systems for residents of Salina. These water infrastructure funds will partially fund the construction project which is estimated to cost $526,000."

The project will extend the drinking water and sewer system to provide adequate service for existing housing and new housing lots. The construction will include approximately 1,800 feet of water line and 2,000 feet of sewer line.

EPA oversees the protection of water quality and public health. The Agency is working with community leaders and the public to meet the growing needs and demands of limited water resources. EPA remains committed to developing innovative and sustainable solutions for managing and financing infrastructure with public and private partners.
