VOORHEES, NJ, Apr. 27, 2011 -- New Jersey American Water has rolled out a new feature on its website that will allow its customers to find the location of active water main breaks, see how many customers are effected, and get an estimate of when repairs should be complete.
The water main break map, which can be found at http://njaw.wateroutage.com/#, highlights the areas that New Jersey American Water services and if there is a main break in any of those locations, a green, yellow, blue, or red triangle appears alerting customers that a water main is being repaired. A legend connects the triangle colors with how many customers may be impacted. Customers can click onto the triangle to receive more specific information about the main break and tips on what to do if they are affected by a main break. A search function at the top of the webpage also allows customers to type in a specific address to determine if there is work being done in their neighborhood.
"While we work hard to ensure reliable service to all of our customers, with more than 330 million gallons of water passing through more than 8,100 miles of water mains every day, from time to time, New Jersey American Water will experience water main breaks," said Steve Tambini, New Jersey American Water's vice president of operations. "We work every day to minimize these service disruptions and lessen the inconvenience for our customer. Hopefully, our customers find this new main break mapping tool helpful in giving them timely information on work being done in their neighborhood and when their water service will be restored."
