• Experts nationwide to address critically important water infrastructure issues at Houston event.
HOUSTON, Dec. 18, 2006 -- Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) is pleased to announce that its Vice President, Rafael Ortega, PE, will speak at the first ever WaterWorks Conference to be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston on Jan. 30-31, 2007.
Ortega, who is also the chairman of the WaterWorks Conference Planning Committee, is among an elite group of nationally renowned speakers who will share their expertise and insight on the critically important water infrastructure market.
Ortega will give two presentations on Jan. 30. His first presentation titled, "Defining the Needs," will focus on meeting the overwhelming future demands of the water infrastructure industry, both distribution and transmission, and the challenges facing it. His second presentation titled, "Immediate Response to Catastrophic Failures," will touch on the lessons learned from the accidental puncture of a critical waterline and the different ways of dealing with these types of failures.

Also speaking at the conference will be LAN Project Engineer, Gregory J. Henry, PE. Henry's presentation titled, "Case Study -- City Of Houston 42-inch Pipeline Failure," will focus on the catastrophic failure of a 42-inch water transmission main in Houston, its analysis and rehabilitation.
Sponsored by the Gulf Coast Trenchless Association and held in conjunction with the Underground Construction Technology International Conference & Exhibition, the WaterWorks Conference will emphasize the construction/rehabilitation of water transmission and distribution systems, examine issues and problems, relate case studies, and explore near and long-term solutions for the world's critically important water infrastructure.
