(L-R) Black & Veatch professionals George Buchan (Framework Commercial Manager), Brian McVeigh (Sub Agent), Mark Gosling (M&E Manager), Ron Hodgson (Project Manager), Matthew Grimmond (Site Manager), Lindsay Duff (Commercial Manager), and Brendan Smith (Client Services Director) collect the awards at the CECA North East awards eveningBlack & Veatch was awarded Health & Safety Company of the Year for the second year in succession. The award recognizes the company's continued commitment to improve safety standards through creativity and innovation. Further evidence of Black & Veatch's commitment to health and safety came earlier this year when the company was awarded the Chris Jopling Award for Innovation in Risk Management from one of construction industry's leading insurance underwriters.
Black & Veatch secured the title Environmental Company of the Year by looking beyond standard environmental practice. The company's winning submission focused on a recently completed refurbishment project undertaken at Howden Wastewater Treatment Works for Northumbrian Water. Efforts to manage the work's environmental impact included material reuse, segregation of waste for recycling, establishing a Site Waste Management Plan to reduce waste generation by 10 percent and aligning the supply chain with the environmental objectives of the project.
The awards, including a safety helmet-inspired trophy, were presented to Black & Veatch at the event attended by more than 300 regional members of CECA, representing the main body of civil engineering contractors in the UK, together with their guests at the Marriot Gosforth Hotel, Tyne and Wear.
