US & CANADA -- As part of an initiative to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, SUEZ’s Water Technology & Solutions (WTS) has earmarked approximately $1 million to support communities in which it operates. With funding going to the Red Cross and Red Crescent, WorldServe International, Water for People, United Way, and Feeding America, these organizations will be able to assist communities around the world whose citizens are struggling during these trying times.
“The people impacted by the coronavirus are our family, our neighbors, and our friends,” said Yuvbir Singh, CEO for SUEZ – Water Technologies & Solutions. “These charitable contributions underscore our commitment to the communities in which we live and work, and are tailored to support those organizations on the frontlines working to improve health and provide for those in need.”
The $1 million earmarked for relief efforts includes previously announced contributions to United Way and Feeding America, as well as additional contributions to international NGOs and charities:
United Way: WTS donated a total of $485,000 to United Way chapters in the United States and Canada to support COVID-19 relief and recovery efforts, and help prevent homelessness for families affected by the pandemic.
Feeding America: WTS donated $165,000 to anti-hunger efforts in U.S. communities to fight rising food costs and food insecurity due to unemployment and economic conditions.
International NGOs and Charities: Two grants totaling $100,000 to WorldServe International and Water for People to support global access to clean and safe drinking water. Additional grants totaling $250,000 have been earmarked for Red Cross and Red Crescent chapters in Hungary, Latin America, the Caribbean, Kuwait, and Algeria to provide humanitarian relief in those areas.
“The threat the virus poses to the health and well-being of our society necessitates action,” Singh said. “I am proud to represent a company from the water industry that is able to support communities in need on a global scale during this critical period.”
