Las Vegas Valley Water District to install Leica GPS network
NORCROSS, GA, Oct. 26, 2005 -- Leica Geosystems today announced that it has won an order from the Las Vegas Valley Water District to upgrade its GPS reference station network with new-generation Leica System 1200 reference stations and Spider network software. It will supply five GRX1200Pro GPS reference station receivers with AT504 choke-ring antennas. They'll replace the existing reference station equipment currently being used. The Spider software will provide control and management functions for the network. The installations will take place over the upcoming months while giving the GPS community time to prepare for this implementation...

Resulting sewage sludge is being used as a fertilizer, though, without informing the recipients about the complete contents of this contaminated waste material. In 2002, a National Academy of Sciences panel warned that sludge is such a complex and unpredictable mix of biological and chemical wastes, that its risks, when used for farming, cannot be reliably assessed. The panel concluded that standard strategies to manage these risks "do not protect public health."
