SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 11, 2002 — Department of Water Resources has announced a $10 million program to provide flood protection and to improve the environmental quality of streams in urban areas.
Under the Urban Streams Restoration Program in fiscal year 2002-2003, the Department will award grants of up to $1 million for projects completed no later than the spring of 2005.
The Department is soliciting applications and will consider all proposals received by 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at P.O. Box 942836, Sacramento, CA 94236-0001.

The funds were made available by the passage of Proposition 13 in March 2000.
The Department of Water Resources operates and maintains the State Water Project, provides dam safety and flood control and inspection services, assists local water districts in water management and water conservation planning, and plans for future statewide water needs.
