SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 11, 2002 — The Department of Water Resources (DWR) expects to complete by June 2002 a review of funding applications and make final funding recommendations under Proposition 13's Groundwater Storage and Groundwater Recharge Programs.
On December 17, 2001, DWR staff received 60 applications: three for construction loans, 43 for construction grants, and 14 for feasibility study grants. Requests totaled nearly $330 million for conjunctive use projects and studies exceeding $900 million in total costs.
The Groundwater Storage Program has $91 million available this year for construction and feasibility study grants, and $10.48 million is available for construction loans in the Groundwater Recharge Program.

The Safe Drinking Water, Clean Water, Watershed Protection and Flood Protection Act (Proposition 13, also known as Water Bond 2000) approved in March 2000, is designed to provide funding to enhance water supply reliability, improve water quality and safety, improve flood protection and increase the beneficial use of existing supplies in the state of California.
The Department of Water Resources operates and maintains the State Water Project, provides dam safety and flood control and inspection services, assists local water districts in water management and water conservation planning, and plans for future statewide water needs.
