Washington, DC, Jan. 7, 2002 — A delegation of senior representatives from Chinese environmental agencies will visit five U.S. cities January 22-February 2 to meet with American suppliers of water monitoring equipment. The orientation visit is being organized by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (TDA).
In conjunction with the visit, TDA will hold briefings for U.S. companies in Washington, D.C. and Denver, CO. The briefings will enable companies to learn about China's plans to set up 60 new automatic on-line water quality monitoring stations on key sections of national rivers and basins within the next five years. The Chinese also will discuss stations planned by provincial and local governments. Each new on-line monitoring station represents approximately $180,000 in export potential for U.S. companies.
According to Geoff Jackson, TDA's Regional Director for Asia, "the briefings will provide an outstanding opportunity for U.S. companies to learn about current water quality monitoring project needs in China." Briefing participants will also have opportunities to discuss their products and services directly with the Chinese officials in prescheduled, one-on-one meetings.
The 11-member delegation will be headed by the Deputy Director for Planning of the China State Environmental Protection Administration, Wang Yuongjian. Other stops will include New Orleans, LA; Lincoln, NE; and the American Water Works Association/Water Environment Federation 2002 Water Sources Conference in Las Vegas. The U.S. visit is supported, in part, by the United States - China Business Council.
The Washington briefing is scheduled to take place from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., January 24, at the J.W. Marriott Hotel. The $40 registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and briefing materials. The Denver briefing is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., January 31, at the U.S. Export Assistance Center.
Advance registration is requested for both briefings. For registration or sponsorship information, go to http://www.trademeetings.com.
