Nov. 4, 2002 -- Swedish environmental companies will share their experiences on sustainable development with Mexican colleagues in an upcoming state visit of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf and Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden.
The Swedish Trade Council through The Swedish Environmental Technology Network organizes the seminar "The Sustainable City - a Swedish Partnership Initiative" in close cooperation with The Swedish-Mexican Chamber of Commerce, Swedish Embassy and Consulate in Mexico and Swedish Companies.
On November 6, the seminar "The Sustainable City" focusing on sustainable development will be carried out together with an exhibition aiming to create business opportunities and promote stronger cooperation between Swedish and Mexican companies.
Mr. Ulf Dinkelspiel, ambassador and CEO of the Swedish Trade Council will open the seminar. His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden will participate in the closing ceremony of the seminar and will be presented with a summary and conclusions from the seminar led by Ms. Anna Lindh, Minister for Foreign Affairs.
"The Sustainable City" is a concept based on a holistic view and close cooperation between the private and public sector in creating sustainable technical solutions. Swedish companies offer their experience and competence to the Mexican market and hope for close cooperation with its Mexican counterparts, says Rutger Engsall, Senior Vice President at the Swedish Trade Council and head of the Swedish Environmental Technology Network.

Within the environmental market the estimated market growth in Latin America is currently estimated at over 11.5% per year, ranking in second in the world in this category, behind only Asia. Mexico has one of the better developed environmental legal and regulatory frameworks in Latin America spurred on by the examples of its northern trading partners, the United States and Canada. Industrial Environmental Opportunities identified in the industrial customer segment relate to: Waste management, water pollution control, renewable energy and clean production.
