Nov. 19, 2002 -- EPA's administrator Christie Todd Whitman joined the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) recently in presenting the WHC President's Award to Robert Wayland, Director of the Office of Wetlands, Oceans, and Watersheds.
In presenting the award, the Wildlife Habitat Council cited Bob's outstanding leadership in promoting partnerships that are critical to achieving environmental protection, water quality improvements, wildlife habitat enhancement and public education.
The Council described Bob as one of the "outstanding career public servants who not only understands why partnerships are so important, but also uses all of his knowledge, skills, and experience to create them, and help them meet desired outcomes."
Examples of Bob's support for partnership-building include the popular Five Star Partnership program, Watershed Assistance Grants, and support for the Council's many corporate-led projects. The Wildlife Habitat Council stated that hundreds of locations have benefited from Bob's vision, inspiration and hard work.
