EPA plans International Coastal Cleanup Campaign for 2002

Sept. 6, 2002
On Sept. 21, EPA will lead an international beach and waterway cleanup campaign.

Sept. 6, 2002 -- The Environmental Protection Agency has scheduled its 17th annual International Coastal Cleanup Campaign (ICCC), the largest beach and waterway cleanup campaign with data collection in the world, for Sept. 21, 2002.

Each year, volunteers in states, territories, and worldwide, clear tons of trash and debris from coastlines, rivers and lakes.

For many years, the EPA has been the leading Agency in addressing trash in our waterways, oceans, beaches and coasts. EPA staff from Headquarters and the Regions participate in clean ups around the Country.

If you would like to participate in any of the local cleanups, please contact Javier Velez-Arocho at 202-566-1257.
