RICHMOND, BC, Dec. 28, 2000 (CNW) -- MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSE: MDA) has been contracted via its Triathlon subsidiary to provide information products to improve land use management in Southern Ontario's largest watersheds.
The project, funded by the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA), Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) and their municipalities, will involve information products derived from over 1.5 million hectares in the Grand and Thames River Watersheds.
The Grand and Thames have been declared Canadian Heritage Rivers. The GRCA and UTRCA act on behalf of their municipalities and regions, and are tasked with the management and stewardship of their respective watersheds.
Under the direction of Ms. Lorrie Minshall, P.Eng., the GRCA is responsible for resource management related to the watershed, relying on accurate information to support decision-making. Minshall said: "Triathlon's land information will help the GRCA and its municipalities in watershed stewardship, flood and water management, land conservation, and recreational development in a region pressured by rapid population growth."
The President of MDA's Triathlon, Dr. John Bennett, said: "Our goal is to support the needs of regional authorities by providing them with essential land information. The Grand and Thames Watersheds Project is an excellent example of meeting that objective."
