Dec. 22, 2000—WERF, in collaboration with the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) and the Great Lakes Environmental Center (GLEC), presents a workshop on Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic Chemicals: Assessing the State of the Science on Thursday and Friday, March 15 - 16, 2001, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City, in Arlington, Virginia.
WERF subscribers, SETAC members, and others will have a chance to join the debate on research needs to develop fact-based scientific decisions for controlling persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic chemicals (PBTs) at this two-day workshop.
A number of national and international initiatives are underway that deal with various aspects of identifying and managing PBTs. These activities include solid waste management, changes in reporting levels, screening of compounds submitted for listing approval, and an overall strategy for coordinating PBT management and research within U.S. EPA and internationally.
This workshop will present information on the environmental fate and effects of PBTs and their regulation and management. Information will also be developed to support fact-based decision-making for utilities and industry, and the workshop will examine future research needs. The objective of this workshop is to bring sound science principles to the debate on research needs for regulations and decisions regarding PBT controls.
A registration form is available on the WERF web site at http://www.werf.org/files/PBTwkshpflyer.pdf, or by emailing [email protected].
