MORGANTOWN, WV, July 17, 2001 — For more than 20 years, the National Small Flows Clearinghouse (NSFC) has been helping America's small communities deal with their wastewater issues.
To allow greater access to its vast collection of materials, the NSFC is providing its most useful information on a CD-ROM titled Wastewater Resources for Small Communities (Item #WWCDGN162).
These resources will be of use to anyone who works with or has an interest in small community wastewater issues, including professional engineers and operators, government agencies, local officials, researchers, and homeowners. The CD puts a wealth of helpful information at the user's fingertips, such as:
* Statistics on the status of septic systems in the U.S. detailed by state;
* A series of septic system brochures in both English and Spanish;
* General and technical versions of fact sheets about 13 different technologies for treating and disposing of wastewater;
* An educational section that includes the poster, Onsite Wastewater Treatment for Small Communities and Rural Areas, which describes 23 different wastewater treatment technologies;
* More than 300 articles from NSFC's publications since 1989, including information from the Small Flows newsletter, the Small Flows Quarterly magazine, and the Pipeline newsletter;
* the complete text of EPA's Response To Congress On Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems, which analyzes the costs and benefits of decentralized wastewater treatment alternatives and EPA's plans for implementing the alternatives;
* the 2000-2001 Wastewater Products Catalog, which provides a complete listing of the 434 free and low-cost products NSFC offers.
Funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Small Flows Clearinghouse (NSFC) helps small communities find affordable wastewater treatment alternatives to protect public health and the environment. Located at West Virginia University, the NSFC is a nonprofit organization established in 1979 under an amendment to the 1977 Clean Water Act. Since that time, the NSFC has become a respected national source of information about "small flows" technologies-those systems that have fewer than one million gallons of wastewater flowing through them per day-ranging from individual septic systems to small sewage treatment plants.
Anyone who works with small communities to help solve wastewater treatment problems can benefit from the NSFC's services, which include more than 450 free and low-cost educational products, a toll-free technical assistance hotline, five computer databases, two free publications, and an online discussion group.
Wastewater Resources for Small Communities is an excellent reference guide for any wastewater professional or homeowner. The cost is $14.95 plus shipping. To order, call the NSFC at (800) 624-8301 or (304) 293-4191 or e-mail [email protected] and request Item #WWCDGN162 to get the most comprehensive source of information about small community wastewater treatment.
