More than half of the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE’s) budget is distributed to Michigan communities through its DWSRF and CWSRF.
“Communities across the state have benefitted from the funding provided through these programs – more than $7 billion since their inceptions,” says Kelly Green, administrator of Water Infrastructure Funding and Financing for EGLE. “This dashboard allows communities, the public, and policymakers transparent access to the grant and loan awards — who is receiving them, for what purpose, and the amounts allocated.”
The dashboard is updated quarterly as new loans are awarded. Users can sort information in the dashboard by using the filters at the top of the screen, (Fiscal Year Awarded, Impacted Legislative Districts, or Project Number), by zooming and panning on the map, or by clicking on a slice on the pie chart. To view more details about a specific project, click on a point feature on the map.
Started 1989, the CWSRF program assists municipalities with sanitary and storm system improvements. The DWSRF program begin nine years later and is a companion program that awards loan dollars to applicants to satisfy Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.
The programs operate as revolving funds whereby loan payments revolve back into the fund and are awarded to future applicants. Since the inception of the programs, EGLE has provided over $7.3 billion dollars in low interest loans for drinking water and wastewater projects.
