The company appointed Tracy Cheuk as market director for water, coastal, and climate change for Singapore, spearheading the company’s strategy for water and coastal engineering.

International design, engineering, and advisory company Aurecon announced a new market director for water, coastal, and climate change for Singapore. The company appointed Tracy Cheuk to help grow its expertise across those areas in the country.

According to the World Resources Institute, Singapore will be one of the most water-stressed countries in the world by 2040, exacerbated by climate change. Singapore, like many countries, will have to address the challenge of securing an adequate and affordable supply of water for its people, as demand for water continues to rise in tandem with population and economic growth. To that end, Singapore holds immense potential for the delivery of resilient water infrastructure, as well as water management solutions to meet its current and future water needs.

“Water has always been an existential issue for Singapore and it continues to be at the forefront of water management globally,” says Jean-Marc Girard, Chief Operations Officer of Asia who is currently leading Aurecon’s Singapore business. “Tracy’s proven local and international track record, especially in water and urban development, adds depth to our expertise and differentiates Aurecon in a highly competitive market. Under her leadership, our team will be well placed to help our clients better seize the opportunities arising from increasing demand for sustainable water resources, effective drainage management and resilient coastal protection.”

As a civil engineer, Cheuk has more than 20 years of Singaporean and international experience. Throughout her career, Cheuk been involved in delivering infrastructure projects of differing scale and complexity. These include the Public Utilities Board (PUB) drainage and sewer upgrading improvement works, PUB / National Environment Agency resource recovery pursuit and JTC Corporation Lorong Halus reclamation pursuit in Singapore; the London 2012 Summer Olympics Walking and Cycling Enhancement Program, and Romsey Wastewater Treatment Plant in the United Kingdom (UK); and the West Kowloon Drainage Improvement Stage 2 Phase 1 works and Tai Hang Tung Storage Scheme project in Hong Kong.

Besides her experience in water and urban development, Cheuk brings deep expertise in strategic planning and business development; operational management and efficiency optimisation; corporate governance and compliance; as well as risk, commercial, and change management.

In her new role, she will also spearhead Aurecon’s Singapore strategy and thought leadership positioning for water and coastal engineering; strengthen existing client relationships and expand client base; and advance in-house technical capabilities.

“Singapore is working proactively to ensure a sustainable water supply and to protect her coastline from rising sea levels,” says Cheuk. “We are keen to contribute our local knowledge and international expertise to bring that mission to life. I am delighted to be part of a firm with innovation and sustainability at heart. I look forward to collaborating with my talented colleagues across our business to help our clients respond effectively to the challenges of securing Singapore’s water future.”

Before Tracy joined Aurecon, she was Technical Director covering both Civil & Infrastructure and Water & Urban Development business units, for Singapore / Southeast Asia at AECOM Singapore, as well as supporting key regional initiatives on integrated water management. Tracy has also served in different leadership roles at Mott MacDonald, Mouchel, Atkins, and Black & Veatch in the U.K. and Hong Kong, where she was instrumental in growing their footprint and operations.

Tracy holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (Honors) from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a Diploma in Management from Imperial College London, UK and an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Imperial College Business School, UK. She is also a Chartered Engineer MICE MHKIE and a PRINCE2 Practitioner, APMG International. Tracy is fluent in English and Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and Hakka).
