Water Turbidity Measurement: Hach TU5300sc process turbidimeter

April 1, 2017
The amount of insoluble matter present in drinking water is an essential quality indicator.

The amount of insoluble matter present in drinking water is an essential quality indicator. Silt, sand, bacteria, spores, and chemical precipitates all contribute to the cloudiness or turbidity of water. An accurate and sensitive measurement of turbidity is vital for ensuring that drinking water is free of contaminants.

As with any analytical procedure, turbidity should be measured in a fast and accurate manner. New turbidity measurement technology has been developed by Hach® that specifically addresses these characteristics. From these two standpoints, the new technology provides unprecedented benefits measuring not a single reflection of the light beam at 90° but collecting an array of results at 90° all the way around the sample cell.

Collecting the light reflected at 90° in the full circle (360° x 90°) allows a significantly increased signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, which lays the foundation for better precision and accuracy of the turbidity measurement, especially at the low end of the range.

The EPA-approved TU5 Series platform employs a patented optical design that sees more of your sample than any other turbidimeter, delivering the best low-level precision and sensitivity while minimizing variability between measurements. For the first time, you will be able to remove uncertainty of which measurement to trust between your lab and process instruments, thanks to identical 360° x 90° Detection Technology in any TU5 Series turbidimeter.

The TU5 Series dramatically reduces the time needed to get a turbidity measurement you can rely on.

The TU5 Series dramatically reduces the time needed to get a turbidity measurement you can rely on, with 98% less online sample surface area to clean, sealed vials for calibration, and the elimination of the need for indexing and silicone oil in the lab. Not to mention a smaller online sample volume means you will detect events almost immediately.

Prognosys™ monitors your TU5 Series online instrument, proactively alerting you to maintenance needs before your measurement becomes questionable. And a Hach Service Agreement protects your investment and helps ensure that you stay in compliance and on budget.

For more than 60 years, Hach has been finding solutions that help you best manage your water. Hach’s analytical instruments and reagents are used to test the quality of water in a variety of industries and markets. Learn more at hach.com.
