WARRINGTON, UK, March 5, 2002 -- Warrington based Galliford Northern, in a joint venture with Costain, has been awarded a three-year contract with a potential value in excess of £215 million to design and build water and wastewater capital works in Cheshire and South Manchester.
The contract is one of three major framework agreements awarded to complete the remaining £730m AMP3 programme in the North West region.
Galliford Northern, part of the Galliford Try group, has worked with United Utilities (previously North West Water) over a 20-year period. George Marsh, deputy chief executive of Galliford Try says: "I am delighted that Galliford Northern has been selected by United Utilities for this important project. Design services for the Galliford/Costain Joint Venture are to be provided by WS Atkins Consultants Limited. Bill Peacock, WS Atkins Head of Operations, responsible for delivery of these services says, "We are very pleased to build on our long-running relationship with Galliford/Costain to provide the solutions envisaged by United Utilities in meeting the needs of their customers. "
The scope of the works includes the design and construction of wastewater treatment works; UID (unsatisfactory intermittent discharge) combined storm overflow chambers; water treatment works and sludge treatment works. Galliford Northern's experience in this sector includes working in partnership with Hyder (Welsh Water) on a £90 million AMP3 sewer overflow improvement programme and with Yorkshire Water as an approved contractor for the AMP3 programme.
