SPOKANE, WA, June 17, 2002 -- Itron Inc. recently launched the VIENA meter reading and work order management solution to the North American market.

VIENA is an inexpensive, easy-to-use software application that provides smaller utilities with an easy entry point into the world of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) technology, and the many operational improvements that follow.

The announcement of VIENA was made in conjunction with this week's American Water Works Association annual conference and exposition in New Orleans. The conference brings together technology providers and utility representatives from the global water industry.

The VIENA platform supports a variety of different work orders and is specifically designed to help water, electric, and gas utilities manage the complex task of collecting data from the field and integrating it into other systems. And, since flexibility is important, VIENA's User Job feature, an application-programming interface, allows a utility to expand the system's capabilities to suit its operations and particular needs.

"The release of the VIENA software solution is part of Itron's ongoing effort to make advanced automation technology as easy and accessible as possible for utilities of all sizes and types," said John Hengesh, vice president and general manager of Itron's Water and Public Power Business Unit. "Utilities will be hard-pressed to find a more uncomplicated and cost-effective path into electronic and Off-site Meter Reading than VIENA."

VIENA, which supports Itron electronic meter reading, Off-site Meter Reading, and soon mobile AMR systems, is a proven solution, having been successfully implemented by more than 120 utilities in parts of Europe, the Caribbean, and Mexico prior to its domestic release.

Itron is a technology provider and critical source of knowledge to the global energy and water industries. More than 2,000 utilities worldwide rely on Itron technology to deliver the knowledge they require to optimize the delivery and use of energy and water.

Itron's solution portfolio includes automatic meter reading systems to meet the requirements of all customer classes and service environments; web-enabled workforce management solutions; as well as transmission and distribution system design solutions and services. Itron also provides advanced software solutions and consulting services for collection, analysis and application of load profile data, including enterprise-wide data access, data warehousing, load research, complex billing and settlement, and web-based data access and exchange.
