KYIV, July 24, 2002 - The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine is organizing a one-day seminar on water management in Ukraine in Novodnistrov'sk on the Dniester River on 31 July.
The seminar, which is being arranged in close co-operation with the State Committee of Water Management in Ukraine and the River Basin Management of the river Dniester, Prut and Siret, will focus on introducing the participants to the European Union Water Framework Directive and on presenting a comparative analysis of the Directive and relevant Ukrainian legislation. In addition, recommendations for amendments of the Ukrainian legislation will be discussed.
The roundtable will include some 50 representatives of various Ukrainian governmental institutions, including the State Committee on Water Management, River Basin Management, and the Ministry of Environmental Resources, as well as non-governmental organizations and the Ukrainian and Moldovan media.
The German Government is financially supporting the roundtable. Another meeting on the same topic is planned to be held at the end of October in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
