Fort Washington, Pa., Feb. 27, 2002 -- Severn Trent Services, Inc. has been awarded a contract with the Lewes, Delaware Board of Public Works (BPW) to operate the City's wastewater treatment plant.

The Lewes plant processes an average flow of 400,000 gallons of wastewater daily and serves a community with a population of approximately 3,000. The three-year contract for turn-key operation of the plant and twenty-two sewage lift stations is valued at approximately $1,000,000.

"The BPW outsourced the operation to Severn Trent for the potential to save on operating costs and for the technical expertise and professional management services that Severn Trent will bring to the operation," said Regional Manager for Severn Trent, Jeff Doutrich.

Severn Trent's team of scientists and engineers will work closely with the BPW to arrive at the most effective and efficient solutions in response to escalating treatment costs, as well as to evaluate alternatives to costly effluent relocation from the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. Upcoming TMDL (total maximum daily loads) legislation may require the BPW to incur the capital costs to relocate plant effluent from the canal.

Severn Trent Services is recognized as a leader in developing cost-effective operations, and has an established record of providing the highest levels of service and regulatory compliance. The company operates over 600 water and wastewater facilities across the United States.
