Stormwater Filtration
AbTech Industries offers a variety of products providing immediate BMP solutions with maximum flexibility. The company’s entire product line utilizes its patented Smart Sponge® technology that not only captures oil but offers a number of other advantages. Smart Sponge technology has a unique molecular structure based on innovative polymer technologies that are chemically selective to hydrocarbons. The Smart Sponge fully encapsulates recovered oil, preventing absorbed oil from leaching, even under pressure. Because it can also remove low levels of oil from water, it is able to eliminate sheen. The Smart Sponge remains buoyant in calm or agitated water, allowing it to remain in place until fully saturated and resulting in no wasted product. Once oil is absorbed, the Smart Sponge transforms the pollutants into a stable solid for easyrecycling, providing a closed-loop solution to water pollution.

Curb inlet stormwater filter
The ClearWater BMP stormwater filter is a powerful advancement in sidewalk curb inlet filtration technology. The patent-pending, stainless steel filter train design allows stormwater flows to be screened, triple settled, and then filtered, all within the confines of an existing concrete curb inlet drain box. This aggressive filtration design significantly reduces concentrations of trash, sediment, hydrocarbons, metals, and nutrients. Testing from San Diego State University established that the unit will remove 97% of TSS, 86% of hydrocarbons, 83% of zinc, and 81% of lead. Specifically designed for retrofitting within the existing curb and gutter infrastructure, it handles heavy storm flows with ease, is non-scouring, utilizes mosquito free technology, and requires no excavation or concrete modification.

Stormwater screening
The Storm Monster™ is a high performance fine screen designed to filter combined sewer overflows and prevent trash from escaping into the local environment. The rotating perforated panels with 6 mm openings move solids, trash, plastics and floatables to the downstream end of the system where they are removed by a solid clad cleaning brush. The cleaning mechanism is located above the highest emergency overflow level, thus allowing the brush to clean the screen and prevent build-up and blinding. Flow enters through the top, bottom and front of the screen at nearly twice the rate of singleentry bar screens.

Aeration system
MTS/Mass Transfer Systems’ MTS Multi-Aspirator™ submersible self aspirating aerator is currently finding applications in stormwater runoff basins. The system is designed for a variety of applications where oxygen transfer and mixing are required along with portability. The design also allows for easy installation into existing tanks where removing the tank contents is not feasible. The system places the aerator at the bottom of the tank and creates distinct zones of influence for aeration and mixing. During operation the aerator creates a vacuum and naturally aspirates air from above the liquid surface for aeration purposes. Air blowers are not required.

Stormwater separation system
Using patented continuous deflective separation technology, the CDS system screens, separates and traps debris, sediment, and oil and grease from stormwater runoff. The indirect screening capability of the system, available from Contech Stormwater Solutions, allows for 100% removal of floatables and neutrally buoyant material, without blinding. Flow and screening controls physically separatecaptured solids, preventing re-suspension and release of previously trapped pollutants. Available precast or cast-inplace, offline units can treat flows from 1 to 300 cfs. Inline units can treat flows up to 20 cfs, and bypass flows in excess of 50 cfs. Laboratory and field testing have demonstrated that the CDS effectively removes pollutants.

Metering Valve
Red Valve Company’s First Flush Valve for stormwater metering is a simple rubber thimble installed at the end of stormwater lines or in CSO diversion chambers to prevent street and sewage plants from flooding. The valve is designed to control the “first flush” of a rainstorm by enabling an operator to store 30-80% of the stormwater in its system. It is a “passive device” requiring no external control, power source or actuation. An opening at the bottom of Zone 1 allows small size debris to pass through continuously. Zone 2 is the holding area, which retains the heavy “first flush” downpour. As flow rates increase, Zone 3’s rectangular opening (size is calculated to regulate required flow) permits discharge at a controlled rate. At the top, Zone 4 allows for full flow to discharge when the system is surcharged and also permits escape of floatables. The First Flush Valve is available in sizes 6” to 72”.

Midge, filter fly control
STRIKE® Professional Midge Control helps eliminate midge and filter fly infestations from waste and water management facilities without interruption of production. Strike has three different formulations—Strike®, Strike® Ultra and Strike® Pellets—that are designed for application during operation to stop midge and filter flies before they start. Pre-adult midge and filter flies absorb the Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) into their systems, disrupting normal development and keeping them in the pupa stage. The result is no more adults and virtually no future infestations.
