OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 21, 2000—The East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD) Water Treatment Section has just completed a leadership development project intended to assess the organization's leadership, strategy and culture.
The project, conducted with help from TAP Resource Development Group, was to better prepare the Water Treatment leadership team to follow up on Partnership For Safe Water Assessment recommendations and prepare for future challenges presented by new regulations and major construction projects.
TAP Resource's tasks included conducting strategic, leadership, and cultural assessments; conducting a number of workshops and training sessions; and developing an action plan. The Water Treatment Section is now implementing specific items from the action plan.
"EBMUD's Water Treatment Section is now on the road to tangible, significant improvement," commented Ricahrd Gerstberger, TAP Resource's Principal-in-Charge at EBMUD.
"The Section's staff has identified their strategic and cultural imperatives, and are now addressing leadership and performance issues. This will result in measureable performance improvements in areas as diverse as customer service, financial performance, safety, and operations."
EBMUD supplies water and provides wastewater treatment for parts of Alameda and Contra Costa counties on the eastern side of San Francisco Bay in northern California. Approximately 1.2 million people are served by EB MUD's water system in a 325-square-mile area. The wastewater system serves approximately 600,000 people in an 83-square-mile area.
