PSC's Pennsylvania subsidiary purchases water system

Philadelphia Suburban Corp. announced that its Pennsylvania Suburban Water Company (PSW) subsidiary has completed the purchase of the assets of the Jefferson Heights water system, serving approximately 450 residents in Jefferson Township, Lackawanna County.

BRYN MAWR, Pa., Aug. 4, 2003 -- Philadelphia Suburban Corp. announced that its Pennsylvania Suburban Water Company (PSW) subsidiary has completed the purchase of the assets of the Jefferson Heights water system, serving approximately 450 residents in Jefferson Township, Lackawanna County. The acquisition was priced at $200,000.

PSC's Vice President of Development Mark J. Kropilak said, "We are pleased to add Jefferson Heights to our growing customer-base in the Pocono region of Pennsylvania. This area is experiencing tremendous growth and we are pleased to bring our water service and expertise to the area's residents."

PSW will promptly make system improvements, including the installation of radio frequency (RF) water meters on all service lines. In addition to the meter upgrades, the company will improve the system's electrical and emergency generator and make improvements to the system's wells. PSW will also outfit Jefferson Heights with a state-of-the-art SCADA monitoring system - which helps monitor water levels and treatment plants.

PSW is a subsidiary of Philadelphia Suburban Corporation (NYSE:PSC - News) the nation's largest U.S.-based investor-owned water utility, serving approximately two million residents in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, Maine and North Carolina.
