Dec. 9, 2003 -- The annual Industrial Water Conference will once again provide attendees with the latest industry news, operating ideas and technical advances in the industrial water market during its three-day run Dec. 9-11, in Las Vegas, NV.
An expert panel will kick off the conference with a discussion on the status of the 316(b) regulation of the Clean Water Act and current issues facing the industrial water industry. Designed to protect fish, shellfish and other aquatic life from being killed or injured by cooling tower intake structures, phase one of 316(b) affected new facilities, while phase two will affect approximately 550 facilities and cost $182 million per year. Phase two regulations are currently on schedule to take final action in February 2004.
Conference tracks will focus on Makeup & Process Water; Cooling Water; and Wastewater Treatment. The Makeup & Process Water track will include sessions on demineralization processes, membrane technology applications and advancements in cooling water supply and treatment. The Cooling Water track will have sessions on gaining access to, managing and optimizing water resources. The Wastewater track will feature sessions discussing treatment and reuse technologies, contaminant reduction issues and recycling applications.
Three workshops are planned on the last day of the conference. Workshop 101: Water Treatment Technologies: Advanced Applications will provide an overview of major operations for boiler feed water applications. Workshop 102: Membrane System Design will address the engineering design of pressure-driven membrane technologies, with an emphasis on reverse osmosis and nanofiltration. Workshop 103, Ion Exchange Dynamics -- a Guide to Operating and Troubleshooting Modern Industrial Ion Exchange Systems will introduce the participant to modern industrial ion exchange resins and systems. Proper system monitoring and control will be discussed.
The Industrial Water Conference will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center and will be co-located with Power-Gen International. Power-Gen is the largest conference & exhibition serving the electric power industry in the US. The show is expected to draw 20,000 attendees and 1200 exhibiting companies.
Attendees at the Industrial Water Conference will receive a free pass to walk the Power-Gen exhibit floor.
One area of the huge exhibit floor has been set aside as the "Water Pavilion." The Pavilion will feature more than 40 companies that specialize in a wide-array of water-related equipment and technologies for the electric power industry. Other companies that feature water-related equipment will be scattered throughout the exhibit area.
