ST. LOUIS, MO, March 21, 2008 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources recently announced a series of grants totaling $3,666,483 to enhance water distribution, wastewater treatment and watershed protection efforts across the state.

The largest involves $670,185 going to Washington County Public Water Supply District #4 to build a wastewater collection and treatment system in the Holiday Shore area. The smallest involves $61,600 for the Normac Sewer District in Camden County to build a septic tank effluent pumping, collection system with a recirculating coarse media filter treatment system that will serve 44 homes.

The grant funds come from a $50 million bond sale in November 2007, which funded Governor Blunt's Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements. The funds will be used in conjunction with a loan from the Department of Natural Resources' State Revolving Fund. The construction project is estimated to cost $7.7 million and is expected to be completed in Dec. 2008.

The Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds. For more information, contact the Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176 or call 1-800-361-4827 or (573) 751-1192.
