• Free webcast sheds light on how to effectively address data security, scalability, and throughput for SCADA and Utility Systems
BOSTON, MA, June 12, 2008 -- PrismTech™, a leader in high-performance middleware and development tools, will host a free webcast next week that will provide a detailed examination of a high performance middleware standard that can address the most challenging data distribution issues encountered by today's SCADA and utilities automation systems.
The webcast, titled "Building Cyber-Secure, Scalable SCADA and Utilities Systems", will discuss how The Object Management Group'sTM Data Distribution Services for Real-Times Systems (DDS) standard can provide the flexibility and control capabilities required to address complex data systems such as those used for power grid control, water and wastewater management, industrial automation, railway control systems, and high throughput telemetry systems.
The webcast is scheduled for June 18, 2008 from 9 am to 10 am US ET and will be repeated again from 2 pm to 3 pm US ET. For more information and to register, visit: http://www.prismtech.com/section-item.asp?id=731#webcast4
Today's SCADA and utility automation systems are increasingly under pressure to deal with large volumes of data in a timely and predictable manner, often over a widening geographical scale. In addition, these systems need to provide secure communication and filtering capabilities that can help optimize data distribution and sense-making. Conventional infrastructure software technologies are falling short in addressing these requirements due to their lack of flexibility and configurability, limited support for dealing with large volumes of data, lack of data filtering, and limited expressiveness and productivity.
Implementations of the DDS standard, such as PrismTech's OpenSplice DDS, provide rich support for real-time QoS properties, support for event processing, security, expressiveness, and productivity needed for modern SCADA and utility automation systems.
Webcast host Angelo Corsaro, Ph.D., product marketing manager, PrismTech, will discuss how DDS middleware implementations can provide much-needed low-latency, high-throughput data dissemination across distributed systems. He will also detail a variety of other benefits, including how DDS supports sophisticated QoS such as traffic prioritization, traffic shaping, software and hardware filtering, content-based subscriptions, and persistence.
Dr. Corsaro is a much-respected figure in the distributed real-time and embedded systems middleware community and co-chairs The Object Management GroupTM DDS Special Interest Group and the Real-Time Embedded and Specialized Services Task Force.
PrismTech is a leader in advanced software integration solutions.
