GREIFENBERG, Germany, Dec. 1, 2008 -- Seawater desalination is a major growth area and is likely to be even more significant in the future. This is a market segment where ultrafiltration is set to become the preferred pretreatment for reverse osmosis (RO).
inge watertechnologies has been making major efforts in the field of ultrafiltration as a pretreatment for RO. This has allowed the company to achieve a substantial increase in sales in the seawater desalination market segment, representing an overall capacity of more than 200 MLD (53 MGD). A further 50 MLD (13 MGD) are anticipated by the end of 2008, which clearly underlines this impressive level of growth. Key factors behind the success achieved by inge watertechnologies are the outstanding quality of the Multibore® membrane, the innovative T-Rack® and its superb technical support.
Seawater desalination plants equipped with inge UF technology are located in China, the Middle East, CIS and the Mediterranean, while Turkmenistan is set to play host to the largest reverse osmosis facility ever to be equipped by inge watertechnologies. The pretreatment upstream of the RO system consists of 8 T-Rack® units each equipped with 96 dizzer®5000plus modules. In total, 768 dizzer® modules produce 58 MLD (15 MGD) of purified water which is fed to the RO system for drinking water production. inge's innovative T-Rack® design offers decisive advantages to the customer, allowing for reduced lead times thanks to the modular, pre-engineered T-Rack® design. Furthermore, assembly of the UF racks is partially carried out on site, which saves on shipping costs and prevents our customers' manufacturing facilities from being overloaded.
In the Arabian Gulf, on the coast of Abu Dhabi, one of the largest UF plants for seawater desalination in the Middle East is soon due to be commissioned. The plant, which is designed to supply process water to a steel plant, will feature 574 dizzer®5000plus modules arranged in seven lines to carry out pretreatment upstream from the RO facilities. Key reasons for choosing inge technology in this case included the mechanical stability of the Multibore® membrane together with its excellent reliability and minimal maintenance costs.
inge watertechnologies AG, based in the town of Greifenberg on the Ammersee lake in Bavaria, Germany, is a leading worldwide provider of ultrafiltration technology, a membrane process used to treat drinking water, process water, wastewater and seawater.
