BERLIN, Germany, June. 6, 2012 -- The Arab Countries Water Utilities Association (ACWUA) has been confirmed as an official partner for WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL 2013 to help promote varied business links between German companies and the Arab nations.

Utilities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) face the same problems in the water sector: limited resources coupled with a growing population, large and expanding conurbations, so-called mega-cities, an infrastructure that is inadequate for meeting the needs of water supply and wastewater disposal and an inability to cover costs through the charges currently being levied. And all this is taking place against the background of high investment costs and a lack of skilled personnel.

In addition to the presentation of current projects, these issues will form the subject matter of various forums and workshops taking place during the fair. The association is also planning to stage an Arab Countries Pavilion at the fair. This joint undertaking will be rounded off by the presence of numerous high-ranking delegations.

“With this partnership we are opening up new commercial opportunities for our exhibitors. There are already many, varied business links between German companies and the Arab nations. The intention is to systematically expand them”, says Cornelia Wolff von der Sahl, project manager for WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL.

Consequently, in 2013, WASSER BERLIN INTERNATIONAL provides the ideal opportunity for establishing or expanding contacts with the Arab region, as well as for learning about interesting potential new markets, for benefiting from the increased attendance at this event, and for attracting new customers.

A special Arabian Day congress programme is also being planned, where aspects of topical importance for the region can be discussed, and one of the main features will be an exchange of views about membrane technology and desalination.

ACWUA comprises more than 95 providers of water and wastewater services in the Arab world and was set up in 2009 at the initiative of the key representatives of the region’s water sector.

ACWUA represents 17 Arab member countries and regions: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauretania, Libya, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, the Palestine region, Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Oman and Yemen. The association’s headquarters are located in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
