Mar. 3, 2009 -- Siemens Automation and Drive Technologies and Welsh Water have joined forces to standardize all electrical equipment in the water and sewerage system of Wales.
The partnership forms part of a ten-year framework which will establish a relationship between Welsh Water and Siemens, under which Siemens becomes the sole supplier of electrical products in the manufacturing of MCC's and associated equipment, to the water company.
"Siemens is very pleased to be entering into this partnership with Welsh Water," said Andrew Reeks, Siemens Automation and Drive Technologies.
"By standardizing the equipment to one manufacturer, there will be many benefits to Welsh Water and to its customers."
The main benefit of standardizing to Siemens equipment throughout the system is that compatibility will be improved. If a new piece of equipment is added that has been manufactured by Siemens, problems that may occur when mixing and matching products from different manufacturers will be eliminated.
In addition, if any maintenance work is required on the system or any further help is ever needed, Welsh Water will know exactly who to turn to for help as there is only one single supplier.
"Welsh Water is delighted to have switched to one single supplier. It's great to know that there is effectively a 'one stop shop' for any Welsh Water maintenance needs," says Paul Beeslee, Head of Procurement at Welsh Water.
He continues: "By standardizing on Siemens manufactured equipment, Welsh Water is sure that it will continue to meet its goal of supplying the best possible service to its customers."
Welsh Water operates 838 WWTW's, 1850 SPS's, 40 reservoirs, 68 water treatment works, 710 WPS's, and supplies an average of 840 million litres of water per day, to 1.2 million homes and a further 110,000 businesses in Wales and some bordering English towns.
